Fireworks Bring Out The Bones

I have been a busy bee as of lately. I have been hard at work with my band Precious Bones and we have a exciting gig tonight at Parkside Lounge in NYC.  It’s always a feeling of excitment and nerves playing in New York. The competition is fierce but as they say if you can make it there you can make it anywhere. I look forward to seeing the reaction of our audience and know we will kick ass. Most recently our EP has been played in clubs and we are being played in rotation on radios in the UK. Sweeeeet!

Happy 4th of July!!  Today is one of my favorite holidays.  I just love fireworks and all the BBQ’s.  It just seems like a day where people look forward to and get excited about going to parties, eat lots of food, hang by a pool, sport some red white and blue clothes, and just relax.  I took this moment to catch up on some things going on.  I filmed a commercial but haven’t gotten the footage yet but, here is a sneak peak behind the scenes picture.  Also, my band Precious Bones has been doing really well.  We have played a couple of great venues and are having a blast performing.  We recently did a halfway to Halloween show at Loop Lounge, played the historical Maxwell’s in Hoboken, NJ and The Studio at Webster Hal in NYC.  At the end of the month we play The City of Water Day Festival in Jersey City, NJ.  All these great gigs have inspired new music for us and are toying with the idea of making a second EP or release singles.  Keep ya posted.  Now go enjoy those fireworks!!alexalex3alex2

The Shuffle of Shrew

Days like these are rare and come very few.
It's the night before we open the show 
Taming Of The Shrew and the dress rehearsal 
ran for hours upon hours. 
Lines were flubbed, scenes are getting re-blocked, 
costumes are still being reworked and the 
thoughts of "will we be able to get through 
a show entirely without stopping," seems grim. 
I usually take 
the train after rehearsals with fellow 
actors discussing the anxieties of
what's to come in the next month 
and if we feel prepared. 
Waving a last goodbye before midnight, we all 
departed ways and decided to put all our 
worries in the hands of fate and let go.  
I popped my headphones in my ears while 
continuing onward towards my second train home.
It was one of those perfect moments when your 
iPod is on shuffle and chooses the exact 
song that fits your mood and what your thinking.  
There is no need to name the song because 
everyone's' musical triggers are different 
and just as fleeting.  I passed the big Macy's 
windows by Harold Square and saw advertisements and 
displays for broadway shows.  Each window contained 
theater memorabilia and a representation of the dreams
all us actors have.  I couldn't help but think of 
what My friend said to me today as I was nervously 
biting my cuticle and letting out impish sighs. 
He said "everything will be ok and if it's not, this is not 
the end."  Even though the sentiment was simple the deeper 
sense of meaning really hit a wonderful resonance in me. 
 I'm in a beautiful show right now and whether 
or not we nail it on opening night doesn't matter. 
It's the beginning of something greater. Something that 
grooms and prepares us for brighter stars, 
bigger projects, and dreams that keep us going.  
Whatever happens tomorrow, it is not the end. 
 Break a leg friends.

TWENTEASE

Hi Guys.  Here is the webseries I worked on called Twentease.  I appear in Episode 4 and 5.  My dialogue is in the 5th episode and I assure you I am not really naked.  I actually was fully clothed in a strapless dress.  Oh the magic of filming.  Have fun watching and remembering your one night stands.  That’s right, you read correctly.  Now go recollect. 😉

Zombies, Mad Men, and a King

Today was surreal.  For a few hours I was sitting in a room at Pearl Studios in NYC  with the cast of the up coming reading of King Lear.  So what?  You might say that, but here is the insane part.  I spent the day with Bebe Neuwrith, Jeffery DeMunn (Dale from THE WALKING DEAD), Darrell Hammond (SNL), and Rich Sommer (MAD MEN) and a few more extremely awesome people.  It was so exciting to meet Jeffery since his character was my favorite on The Walking Dead, and I literally jumped out of my chair screaming and crying when he was killed off.  I might have had a few glasses of wine so I was emotional but either way Dale was the best.  Tomorrow night is the actual Gala event and I feel like I have drunk 10 Mountain Dews like honey boo boo child (toddlers in tiaras reference) and can’t wait to see the audience’s reaction to this star-studded venue.  For now I am going to do jumping jacks until I pass out. Snooze button Monday

Hello Monday.  I don’t know how you will ever top my glorious weekend.  I was invited by my friend Greg to see The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall on Friday night.  The orchestra was performing a one night event in honor of music from Oscar Award winning movies.  The moment you walk into this theater your mouth drops open just a bit and your eyes twinkle from the light bouncing off the gold  embellishments on the walls and ceiling.  Our seats were so close up we could see the sweat glistening off Conductor Steven Reineke’s face.  Once the music started playing, it took everything in me not to get out of my seat and start dancing in the aisle.  The memorable theme songs from “Gone With The Wind” to “Star Wars” to “Harry Potter” drove me into an isolated finger dance in my chair.  Four days later and I am still humming The Cantina song.  I would normally put a link insert here but I wouldn’t want to put more people through this melodic torture.  After the last song I joyously clapped as hard as I could for all the talented musicians and then was quickly whisked away back stage to meet Mr Steven Reineke.  He is a tall handsome fellow and was very gracious to everyone he encountered.  Image

Sunday evening was my turn to perform!  I worked with an incredibly creative, talented, and amazing actor and director.  We spent about 8 hours filming for a feature film where I spent the majority of the time running around in just a bed sheet and yelling profanity.  Any new experience or project I work on gets me super duper bluper nervous and it’s hard sometimes to get out of your head and use your skills.  I am so fortunate that my co-actor Nick has such an infectious personality, one can’t help laugh on set and feel at ease.  I can’t wait to hear more about this project and share what happens next.  This upcoming week is full to the brim with rehearsals for the upcoming Midsummer Nights Dream show debuts April 26th 2012.  Its crunch time I must prepare which I am lack there of.  xo

Its time to play the music

Here is a little re-cap of last night.  It was an interesting evening over all to be honest.  Just before arriving to the theater I saw Buddy from the show Cake Boss zoom past me in his Carlos Bakery Van.  I whipped out my Iphone as fast as I can to snap a picture.  All I really got was a distant picture through my rear view mirror.  Giddy and excited I arrived to the theater around 3pm.  We had a lot of last-minute things to do, which included hanging the curtains, setting up the lighting system and staging the curtain call.  All little stuff but time-consuming.  I had some friends and family come and support this original play.  A few lines were missed, some cues were late, and nerves were at a high but over all the show went well.  Later that evening, after a fun time with friends I was walking back home from the PATH train and found a surprise.  For a few weeks now Jersey Shore has been filming around the corner from my apartment and it has remained pretty quiet in the neighborhood.  I have been secretly dying to see Snooki and how small that meatball really is.  My time had finally come.  I cowardly walked passed her and J-wow putting their dogs in baby carriages.  I  awkwardly took a picture and scurried home.  I watched a few episodes of Monster Man and passed out.  Tonight is round two of the play and Im feeling low energy so I must go overdose on some caffeine.  xoxo

I got the Midsummer’s part!

This is a happy day.  In contrast to yesterday’s grueling adventure I received good news.  I got the part of Peaseblossom in The Frog and Peach theater company’s production of Midsummer Nights Dream.  I have always wanted to be a fairy and so now a small goal is being fulfilled.  To make the day even better, I had a relatively pleasant time at the DMV and renewing my license.  I was able to keep my old photo which is freakishly not bad compared to many I have seen.  Then when I was food shopping for tonight’s “pot luck” at rehearsal for Secrets Love play, someone let me cut them in line because I didn’t have many items.  Not only was that super kind, but it saved me a hell of a lot of time.  Another positive was that we had an excellent last rehearsal and I feel the show is going to have a great opening.  To top off the evening, I laughed my ass off like a child from watching the new Muppets movie.  Today was a good day.

Midsummer Nights Dream Audition

“Dost thou love me?  I know thy will say Ay.”  I have been repeating this phrase ( as well as 18 more lines of monologue) for the past 2 days.  Today was an audition for The Frog and Peach theater company’s performance of Midsummer Nights Dream.  If you haven’t ever tried to memorize Shakespeare before, trust me when I say its a wee bit difficult.  I decided to go with a few lines from Romeo and Juliet for my audition piece.  For the past 48 hours I was reciting my lines over and over again.  It was tough, but I had my words down, my personal homework in tact and I was ready to kick some ass.  My slot time was 6:15pm at Shetler Studios and then I had to make a mad dash into Hoboken for a 7pm call dress rehearsal of my current show Secrets-Love play.  My bags were packed, resume/headshot in hand, make up prime, cute character associated outfit prepared and I was riding the subway with ease.  I felt like a character out of a “actress” movie or a side note from the show SMASH with my hair blowing in the wind.  I arrived to NYC via Path train and then this is when it all took a turn for the worse.  Even though I thought my outfit was cute before I left the house, this unpredictable 2012 March weather fooled me.  I was bundled up with a leather jacket, scarf, stockings, and high heels.  After getting into the kamakazi Taxi cab, I was so shaken up after we almost crashed 3 times I had built up quit a bit of a anxiety persperation.  I thought, “Its alright, I’ve made it to the studio in one piece and I will freshen up in the lady’s room.”  Just as I was crossing the street to my final destination my adorable but deadly heels decided to give out on my ankle, and whoooooops I went.  Twisted ankle and embarresed ego all in a matter of 5 minutes.  I think the worst thing about tripping, or falling in front of strangers is that you have no one to laugh with.  All you can do is turn around and curse at the sidewalk as if something got in your way.  2 minutes later I am in the audition room 1210 and I am sweating bullets!!!  I am overheated, twisted ankle, and nervous and now must recite a monolouge in a language that is not familiar to me.  YIKES!  Needless to say, the audition was rough and all I remember is wiping the sweat from my forehead while trying to follow what the director was saying to me.  I later rushed to Hoboken and enjoyed and the dress rehearsal to this up coming show.  I cross my fingers and wait by the phone for a call to see if I got the part…….cross your fingers….
